About Brian and Kyla
Brian and Kyla are currently Western Canada’s only active Professional Dancesport competitors.
They met at the University of Alberta Dance Club in 1999 and a year later started dancing together as an amateur competitive couple. Their first competition was in October of 2000; they finished dead last in their Newcomer Standard category, but that did not diminish their love of dance!
After 3 years of competing in Edmonton and Western Canada, Brian and Kyla moved to Toronto to pursue their dance careers. They climbed the amateur ranks, earning the following achievements along the way:
- Canadian Closed Championship Finalist
- Canadian Open Championship Finalist
- Canada Dancesport Rising Star Champions
- Edmonton Open Champions
- Western Canadian Open Champions
Brian and Kyla returned to Edmonton in 2008 and, in January 2010, turned professional. They have continued to represent Edmonton and Canada at top national and international competitions. In September 2011, they earned a spot in the finals of the Canadian Professional Open Standard Championship and of the Canadian Professional Closed Standard Championship. They are excited to return to where it all started and give back to the community that introduced them to their passion in life!
